Cafelayan Hydroponic Farm Pioneers Lettuce Chips with Support from WMSU-ATBI and WMSU DTI-SSF

WMSU-ATBI, in collaboration with WMSU DTI-SSF, conducted technical assistance for Mr. Jeffrey Sereño, owner of Cafelayan Hydroponic Farm. Specializing in lettuce production, Cafelayan Hydroponic Farm is a MSME enrolled as an incubatee in the RAISE Program under Project 3 at WMSU-ATBI. The development of lettuce chips—a healthy snack alternative—stemmed from the innovative spirit of its owner and his brother. This venture not only promotes lettuce production but also encourages the consumption of locally grown foods and embraces a healthier diet. The positive market response to their innovative product has resulted in increased demand. To expand their business with healthy snack options, Mr. Sereño applied for DOST-SETUP Grants, aiming to upscale machinery through this program.

The technical assistance, utilizing DTI-SSF Equipment and facilities, showcased the machines’ capabilities, providing essential evidence for the application process. This activity provided insights into production speed and volume, ensuring the ability to sustainably meet market demands. Data gathered from this collaboration will strengthen Cafelayan Hydroponic Farm’s proposal for a DOST-SETUP grant, facilitating investment in equipment to significantly increase production capacity. WMSU-ATBI is confident that this support will propel Cafelayan Hydroponic Farm forward.
